WHAT TO BRING TO InP
Besides the clothes on your appointee's back, parents of prior years recommend ...
Academy documents, completed
Government-issued ID
toothbrush, non-electric
deodorant, if needed
males: shaver, electric with recharger (they won't have time to use non-electric razors)
males: 1-2 changes of white underwear (they're issued underwear)
females: 1-2 weeks of white athletic bras & underwear (females are NOT issued underwear;
actually, they're lucky, as the male doolies are happy to chuck their AF-issue undies after
BCT ends)
watch with fresh battery (they will need this after BCT)
cell phone with recharger (their squadron may or may not allow usage after BCT)
a light, nylon drawstring backpack to carry the above

Should parents attend In-Processing?
While some Appointees may ask their parents to attend, some do not.
Some Appointees tell their parents to stay home, that they want to in-process without the parents present.
Some Appointees want to ask their parents to not come, but the parents don't give the Appointee a choice. Some Appointees want their parents to come. For Intercollegiate Athletes (ICs), some like to in-process with their new teammates.
We recommend that the parents ask the Appointee his/her preference on their accompanying
him/her to In-Processing. It would be best for the Appointee to be enabled to make this decision. S/he will be making her/his own decisions from InP onwards.
WHAT TO WEAR TO InP
What an Appointee wears to In-Processing is by personal preference. Much depends on the weather.
Appointees are encouraged to dress comfortably, perhaps in a favorite outfit. Some choose to wear
T-shirts with sayings, some choose not to. Some Appointees like to be under the radar of the
cadre, some feel ready for any attention from the cadre. They will all be scrutinized by the cadre, but those Appointees sporting anything that will stand out may elicit extra attention. Of course, some Appointees choose to challenge themselves with particular scrutiny by the cadre.
Months will pass before the Appointee is allowed to wear civilian clothes again.
